Poem: Holding Sway

By Leonard Pigg III

Holding Sway

I try and pretend it doesn’t happen and that I don’t feel this way

She haunts my dreams regularly, as a grail to pursue

Perhaps a reminder of the things I want

With the frequency of dreams, it seems more like a need

My head and heart go to war at the thought of her

Dreams of a life of passion together

In conflict with the idea that someone in the world

Holds that much sway over you

I’ve had the experiences

The adventure and the passion

A small foretaste of a possible future

Yet I feel guilt in my pursuit of happiness

Something akin to faith

Even though she is something akin to fate
